Battery for Starlink Mini or Standard: calculate energy and check the connection

Mini and Standard are not a single electrical load. Record kit version, operating hours, how you will power it and what other appliances you will use. Sufficient Wh in a station do not prove that its output, voltage or cable is suitable.

Identify the kit and measurement point

Starlink publishes an average of 20–40 W for Mini and 75–100 W for Standard 4/4X. These are average AC input figures for the antenna, router, power supply and cable assembly, varying with temperature, location and use. They are not instantaneous maxima, start-up peaks or DC measurements. Standard Actuated and other versions are outside these examples.

Check your unit's power supply label and documentation. General information does not verify a specific European kit or that its adapter accepts 230 V. Do not transfer Mini power supply specifications to Standard.

Two AC examples: eight hours of use, inverter available for 24 hours

We use 40 W for Mini and 100 W for Standard 4/4X as constant planning assumptions over eight hours. They are endpoints of average ranges, not a guaranteed worst case. We calculate one day without recharging at 85% AC efficiency, assumed inverter standby consumption of 15 W and a 90% usable fraction of nominal capacity. These are not measured battery performance figures.

Mini: assumed 40 W for 8 h
320 Wh at the assembly's AC input. Estimated nominal capacity: (320 Wh ÷ 0.85 + 15 W × 24 h) ÷ 0.90, rounded upwards: 819 Wh.
Standard 4/4X: assumed 100 W for 8 h
800 Wh at the assembly's AC input. Estimated nominal capacity: (800 Wh ÷ 0.85 + 15 W × 24 h) ÷ 0.90, rounded upwards: 1,446 Wh.

The inverter's 360 Wh are battery consumption: add them after conversion and do not divide them again by 85%. The assembly's AC consumption already includes its power supply; do not deduct that supply's losses again. Add laptop, monitor or lighting separately using their actual electrical path.

If you switch the inverter and equipment off after eight hours, assumed standby consumption would be 120 Wh: the same cases would give 552 Wh and 1,180 Wh nominal. This comparison explains the effect of inverter hours; this guide's calculator models it available for 24 hours and does not offer a control here to change it to eight. Selecting Mini or Standard does not set eight usage hours either: enter them yourself. If Starlink runs for 24 hours, its load hours also increase.

We have not subtracted solar production from the runtime target. Actual charging depends on location, conditions and electrical compatibility. Start-up and its duration remain unknown: do not treat an average as a verified peak.

Mini through USB-C: consumption and port power are different data

Starlink support requires a USB-PD supply of at least 100 W with a 20 V / 5 A profile for Mini and a USB-C to barrel-connector cable. Rule out 65 W or less; we do not infer that 66–99 W is a validated alternative. Check supply, negotiated profile and applicable accessory: 100 W shared across ports does not confirm 100 W in the selected port.

The port requirement does not imply continuous consumption of 100 W. The previous AC averages are not DC measurements of Mini either. To size DC energy you need consumption applicable to that path; changing efficiency in the AC calculation is not enough.

Respect the limits of each supply

Mini declares a 12–48 V DC input rated at 60 W; this is not its average consumption or a peak with documented duration. Starlink limits its performance guarantee to the included supply and cable. A vehicle socket or converter requires checking voltage, connector, polarity, cable and power: this guide does not certify a direct connection.

For Standard 4/4X, examples use the assembly's AC input and retain its corresponding power supply. We do not transfer Mini's DC range or USB-C cable to Standard. The unit's accepted AC voltage, initial demand and any alternative adapter must be checked separately.

Before comparing stations

  1. Identify Mini or the specific Standard version and your kit's power supply.
  2. Record hours and applicable consumption, distinguishing documentary average, estimate and your own measurement.
  3. Calculate energy with explicit losses and reserve, without deducting uncertain recharging.
  4. Check physical output, voltage, protocol, power per profile, cable and accessories; reserve ports for simultaneous loads.
  5. Keep start-up and compatibility pending when information is missing. Sufficient power does not guarantee an Internet connection either: we have not checked coverage, plan or network availability for your situation.

An energy calculation does not establish your kit's connection or start-up compatibility. We have not carried out physical power supply tests.
